DO YOU SHOOT IN STUDIO OR ON LOCATION?

We have recently re-located from our studio in Streetsville and will now only be offering photo sessions on-location. We will no longer be offering in-studio sessions. We have found that most clients are more relaxed in the comfort of their own homes. Shooting on location also lends itself to more natural and lifestyle-oriented photos.

 

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY HOME IS SUITABLE FOR SHOOTING ON LOCATION?

Homes with lots of natural light work best. But don’t worry, we bring a mini backdrop and a lighting set-up that will allow us to shoot in almost any setting. Please have your house as clutter-free as possible, especially on those easy to miss areas like bedside tables. We love to shoot a variety of creative and unique shots, posing your new bundle on a chair, in a basket, on a bed or perhaps on a shelf (we’ll make sure you feel comfortable first, mom!). Despite your baby’s mood, disposition or schedule on the day we’ve arranged to visit, we’re extremely patient and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. Guaranteed, we’ll accomplish what we’ve come for – to capture keepsake photos of your little one.

 

HOW SHOULD  I PREPARE FOR THE SESSION?

A warm home (between 23 – 25 degrees Celsius) is helpful since your baby will be unclothed or in a diaper for most of the shoot. A sleeping baby for photos is ideal! We understand that it’s difficult to know your baby’s schedule at this early stage but it’s helpful if feedings can be timed accordingly. Set-up will take us about 10 minutes so if you’re still feeding when we arrive, that’s absolutely fine!

 

HOW LONG IS A PHOTO SESSION?

For newborns, sessions last for approximately two-three hours, a little less for babies over one month. Adding on time to your photo session is usually fine but please be aware that there will be an additional charge of $100/hr. Let us know if you think you may want to have some more time and we can discuss this before the shoot.

 

WHAT KIND OF CLOTHING SHOULD MY BABY WEAR?

For babies, bare skin is best. However, little hats, booties, cute T-shirts or props are welcomed. If you’re going to be photographed with your baby, bare skin on bare skin makes for beautiful photos. Solid colours also come out well. We suggest having something solid black on hand as well. Please avoid text  or distracting designs on your clothing.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY BABY IS CRYING DURING THE SHOOT?

No problem, we’ve buffered some ‘wait’ time into your session. If your baby is having a particularly bad day and just won’t cooperate with the camera, we’ll be happy to reschedule but there will be a charge of $250. Be assured, this very RARELY happens.

 HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK?

We suggest booking 2-3 months in advance. This is a tentative booking as we know your baby’s arrival date may vary! Since we only take on a limited number of bookings per month, this helps us to plan appropriately. About 95% of our newborn sessions take place on weekdays. These weekday bookings are extremely limited on short notice and usually need to be booked far in advance. There is always the chance that someone has cancelled but that is the exception rather than the norm. We charge an extra $100 for a Saturday booking. During busy seasons bookings are often made at least 3 months in advance.

 

DO YOU OFFER ANY PACKAGES OR DISCOUNTS FOR PREGNANCY AND NEWBORN SESSIONS BOOKED AT THE SAME TIME?

Yes, we discount your second session by 20% when both sessions are booked together.

 

DO YOU CHARGE FOR TRAVEL?

The cost for travel within a 60-mile radius of our office is allotted within the packages. A minimal charge is applied for further distances.

 

HOW LONG AFTER THE SHOOT WILL I GET MY PHOTOS?

Your images will be available for viewing within 15 business days (unless otherwise discussed) from the date of your session. Proof prints are ready for pick-up within 2 – 3 weeks. Once an enlargement order is placed, it’ll take from 3 to 6 weeks for your order to be ready for pick up. Holidays may require longer periods. On average, you can expect your portraits in about 7 weeks.

 

WHEN DO I PAY?

A $250 deposit is required to book a photo session. The remaining balance will be due once you’re images are ready for viewing online.

 

WHAT METHOD OF PAYMENT DO YOU TAKE?

We accept cash, cheque, email-money transfers, Visa or Mastercard. Please make cheques payable to Crimson Photos Inc.

 

DO YOU SHOOT WITH DIGITAL OR FILM?

Although we started with film, we now shoot digital photos. With the current advancements in technology, digital photographs are now of equal quality to film. We take the highest care not only to capture fantastic photos but also, to professionally re-touch them.  The files are carefully managed and the printing process is thoroughly monitored.

 

DO YOU SHOOT IN BLACK & WHITE?

All the images are shot in a high-resolution colour format. Images are then selected and converted to black and white based on the artistic intent of the photographer or on special requests by the client.

 

WILL MY IMAGES BE USED FOR ANYTHING ELSE?

Our contract states that images can be used for Crimson Photos’ portfolio, on-line presence, website, samples, entry in photographic contests or art exhibitions, editorial use, for display within retail stores or at the photographer’s studio. We’ll happily chat with you about this. What we’re really saying is that if we just love one of the photos of your baby, we’re sure he or she will do more for our marketing than any clever words or graphics can!

 

WHAT OTHER FINISHES OR PRODUCTS DO YOU OFFER?

We are pleased to be offering our new Story Book Albums, custom designed by our in-house graphic designers. We also have the very popular mini brag books, canvas gallery wrapped prints, custom framing, announcement cards, DVD slideshows, high resolution digital imaging for print and birth announcements. You can view samples of all these on our website or if you like you can see all of them by visiting our office.

 

DO YOU DO PHOTOSHOP ENHANCEMENTS AND RETOUCHING?

Enhancements can be done to remove blemishes, scars, stretch marks, wrinkles or general unwanted lines seen around the eyes, mouth, neck, etc. Minimal retouching is made on the proofs. Rates are based on the specific requirements. For minor touch-ups, they will be included at the photographer’s discretion. For more extensive re-touching, we charge $40 per hour.

 

HOW LONG DO YOU KEEP THE IMAGES FOR?

All images are archived and kept for 1 year.
