How long after the wedding will we receive the final product?

Your online slideshow to share with family and friends will be ready within 3 weeks of your wedding date. The final edited High Resolution images and proof prints are ready within a few days after.

What do you think distinguishes your work from that of other photographers?

Our style is marked by a clear vibrancy and freshness in all our images. We are also commonly known for providing a warm and memorable experience for all our clients. We achieve this by operating in an unobtrusive and respectful manner, at the same time providing the necessary direction throughout the various parts of the day (i.e. family portraits). We might take advantage of dazzling opportunities with light or grande architectural backdrops by repositioning, for example.

How far in advance do I need to book with you?

It is recommended to book right away in order to ensure that your date is not taken. We take on only a limited number of weddings per year. Couples often book one or two years in advance.

How long have you been in the business?

Crimson Photos started in 2006 with Nicole Charlton as the principal photographer and has since grown into a small team of talented associates. We are well known in the Toronto area having worked with the best industry professionals and venues.

What type of gear do you shoot with?

Canon Mark III cameras, 600 EX speed lights, and a full range of L series lenses. We also carry additional self-contained Aurora lights, soft boxes and reflectors for flexibility in all situations.

Do you have backup equipment?

Absolutely. We never leave home without it. We bring back up cameras, batteries, lights and lenses to every shoot.

What is the best time to do engagement photos or pre-wedding portraits?

All engagement photos are scheduled during the week throughout our peak season (May – Oct.), with the odd exception that a weekend is available. Ideal shoot times during the summer months start 1-2 hours prior to the sunset. This enables us to work with the best light. We are always open to new ideas that incorporate who you are and what you love to do together. We’re open to working with you at the cottage, on the ski hill, at an amusement park, on your boat, or simply together in your cozy kitchen.

How many photographs do you take on our wedding day?

On average we shoot 100 images per hour. All images are taken in a raw camera format that gives us the freedom to convert to B&W or colour in our post-production. Roughly 50-60% of the images taken are converted into B&W. We love B&W… A selection of images is made and shown to you initially via an online slideshow. However, all of our packages include a set of all the images, edited, and prepared for you on a custom USB.

Will you travel to our destination wedding?

Absolutely and always, as long as our schedule is open. Destination packages are quoted on a custom basis. Give us call and we’d love to chat with you more about it.

How many photographers do you shoot with? Do you shoot with second shooters or assistants? And what is the difference?

Most of our packages include a second photographer. If your wedding is smaller and does not require a second shooter we can tailor things down to include one main photographer with an assistant instead. All of our second photographers have been carefully selected and groomed to fit Crimson’s style of natural and precision sharp images.

The difference with having an assistant is that an assistant’s main goal is to support the main photographer (carrying equipment, set-up, etc). However, they are often junior photographers in training and usually shoot as well. They do not have the same experience as a second photographer however.

What about a backup plan if you (or my scheduled photographer) are unable to shoot my wedding for some reason?

We have a great team of associates to pool from should something unforeseen happen to your photographer. Please note we have never had a situation like this to date.

Why the name Crimson?

“Crimson is a colour that reminds me of the One who has taught me to love, the Author of life, the lover of my soul. To put it simply, I wanted His stamp or thumbprint on my work, His blessing on my clients, their marriages and their families…” – Nicole Charlton

What advice do you have for us?

Have fun. Be aware of each other throughout the day. Celebrate with your family and close friends. When you do, this allows us to do our job best.
